Relying Wisdom

Relying Wisdom is a photograph taken at Tenaya Lake, California that captures the essence of my journey through health challenges and the difficulty I faced in relating to friends my age. As I navigated doctor visits and adhered to a specific diet, my friends were there to listen, but they couldn’t fully grasp what I was going through. In contrast, I found solace in the wisdom and experience of older individuals who had faced similar struggles. They provided me with the understanding and space I needed. The image of an old grove tree, weathered by fire and time yet standing resiliently alone, symbolizes that we are never truly alone in our journey. It represents the enduring wisdom of those who have come before us, reminding us that even in solitude, we are connected to a larger continuum of experience.
How Do I Take My Photographs?
I take my photographs by carefully setting up my camera on a tripod in front of the scene. Using a remote trigger with a timer, I position myself and move into the pose I’ve envisioned. It’s essential for me to be in control of the camera and the shot because this process is about reclaiming my own body and deciding how I am portrayed. Through this method, I ensure that I am represented exactly as I wish, on my own terms.
